Pleasant Hill, MO (August 18, 2025) – A collision involving an Amtrak charter train and a pickup truck occurred Sunday afternoon in Cass County, leaving multiple people with minor injuries. The crash took place at approximately 5:00 p.m. on August 17 at the intersection of a private drive and Missouri Highway 58, just outside Pleasant Hill.
According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident happened when a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by a 64-year-old man from Pleasant Hill, attempted to cross the railroad tracks from a private drive. At that moment, an eastbound Amtrak charter train, identified as SC44 and operated by a 37-year-old man from Jefferson City, struck the towed unit attached to the truck.
The train was able to remain operational and continued from the scene with moderate damage reported. The Silverado, however, sustained extensive damage and was left at the crash site.
Emergency personnel from Cass County, along with multiple troopers and deputies, responded to the scene. Six passengers on the train, ranging in age from 51 to 66, reported minor injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene. All injured individuals were from Jefferson City or Fulton, MO.
Despite the dramatic nature of the crash, no one was transported to a hospital, and authorities confirmed that the train remained upright with no derailment.
The crash remains under investigation, and officials have not released further details regarding the circumstances of the truck’s attempt to cross the tracks.
