Port Arthur, TX (January 17, 2026) – A woman was killed and another person injured Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash along Highway 73 West in Port Arthur, marking the city’s second fatal accident of the day.
According to Police Chief Tim Duriso, the crash occurred around 12:30 PM in the 2300 block of Hwy 73 West and involved a passenger car and a pickup truck. Emergency crews responded to the scene and confirmed that the woman driving the car died from her injuries. Her identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the pickup truck sustained injuries in the collision and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Details about the extent of those injuries have not been made public.
Precinct 8 Justice of the Peace Kalan Gardner Sr. confirmed the fatality and noted that an investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not released specific information regarding the cause of the crash or the circumstances that led up to the collision.
Highway 73 was closed for several hours as Port Arthur Police and emergency crews worked to investigate the scene and remove the wreckage. Chief Duriso urged motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while the roadway remains shut down.
This incident follows another fatal crash earlier that same day on Highway 82 near the Causeway Bridge, where a Buna man died in a collision with an 18-wheeler.
