Portage Twp., OH (February 4, 2025) – Three people suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash Monday evening on State Route 163 in Ottawa County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).

The collision occurred around 7 p.m. near Christy Chapel Road. Authorities say a Chevrolet Cruze was traveling south on Christy Chapel Road when the driver attempted a right turn onto State Route 163. During the turn, the vehicle crossed left of center, forcing an eastbound full-size truck to swerve off the roadway and crash into a utility pole.

Emergency responders arrived to find the driver and two passengers of the truck trapped inside. Fire crews and paramedics worked quickly to extricate them and provided emergency medical care before transporting all three to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Officials confirmed that alcohol and drug impairment were not suspected in the crash. The eastbound lane of State Route 163 remained closed for approximately 45 minutes while crews worked to clear the scene. OSHP continues to investigate the incident.

Our thoughts are with those injured, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.

Truck Accidents in Ohio

Accidents involving large trucks and passenger vehicles often result in severe injuries, particularly when vehicles are forced off the road. In Ohio, crashes at intersections and turns are a common source of collisions, especially when drivers misjudge turns, fail to yield, or cross into oncoming traffic.

State Route 163, like many roads in rural and suburban areas, presents risks due to speed limits, visibility challenges, and the mix of vehicle sizes on the road. Incidents like this one highlight the importance of cautious driving, particularly when making turns or merging onto high-traffic roadways.

For those injured in truck crashes, the road to recovery can be physically, emotionally, and financially challenging. Seeking medical attention, documenting injuries, and understanding legal options are critical steps in ensuring proper care and support after a crash.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a vehicle accident, reaching out for guidance can help you navigate the recovery process. Speaking with professionals who understand Ohio’s accident laws can provide valuable support during this difficult time.
