Provo, UT (September 23, 2025) – A deadly collision occurred Monday evening in Provo when a motorcycle and a van collided on University Avenue.
According to Provo police, the crash happened around 6:35 p.m. as a van heading north on University Ave turned left onto 1200 South. The vehicle collided with a southbound motorcycle. The motorcyclist was rushed to a nearby hospital but tragically died shortly after arrival.
While first responders were handling this fatal crash, officers also investigated a separate incident nearby. Just a few blocks away at 300 South and University Ave, a suspected DUI driver struck the roadway’s center island, creating traffic lane blockages. That driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Both crashes remain under investigation.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the motorcyclist who lost their life in this tragedy.
Motorcycle Accidents in Utah
The fatal collision on University Ave illustrates the dangers motorcyclists face when other vehicles make left turns across their paths. These crashes are among the most common—and most deadly—types of motorcycle accidents nationwide. In Provo, where University Avenue is a major thoroughfare with heavy traffic, the risks are heightened by frequent intersections and turning vehicles.
Motorcyclists are far more vulnerable than occupants of passenger vehicles. Even when wearing helmets and protective gear, riders often suffer catastrophic injuries when struck by larger vehicles like vans or SUVs. In this crash, the impact proved fatal despite immediate transport to the hospital.
Utah traffic safety reports continue to show concerning numbers of motorcycle fatalities each year, with left-turn collisions being a recurring factor. Drivers are urged to take extra caution at intersections, carefully checking for oncoming motorcycles before turning. Even small errors in judgment can have devastating consequences for riders.
The second crash on University Ave—suspected to involve DUI—further highlights how impaired driving compounds roadway dangers. While that driver sustained only minor injuries, impaired and reckless behaviors remain leading contributors to serious crashes in Utah.
For families coping with the aftermath of deadly collisions, recovery is not only emotional but also involves navigating complex legal and financial challenges.
