Hit-and-Run Dangers for Pedestrians in Missouri
Pedestrian safety continues to be a major concern across Missouri, particularly in rural or suburban areas like Pulaski County, where sidewalks and crosswalks may be limited. Crashes involving pedestrians walking along roadways often result in serious or fatal injuries, especially when the at-fault driver fails to stop and render assistance.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, pedestrian fatalities and injuries have been steadily rising over the past decade. Hit-and-run incidents are particularly troubling, as they often delay critical medical treatment and complicate investigations.
Drivers are reminded of their legal and moral duty to remain at the scene of any crash, especially those involving vulnerable road users like pedestrians. Leaving the scene of an accident is a serious offense that carries severe criminal penalties in Missouri.
For victims and their families, it is vital to seek immediate medical care and legal support following such incidents to ensure proper recovery and accountability.
