Queensbury, NY (August 31, 2025) – A serious pedestrian accident in Queensbury left a man critically injured Friday evening. The crash occurred around 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of Aviation Rd and the Exit 19 southbound off-ramp from the Northway. New York State Police confirmed that 45-year-old David Mitchell of Granville was struck by a vehicle in the busy intersection.
Emergency responders were quick to the scene, providing care to the injured victim. Mitchell sustained several serious injuries, including broken legs, and was initially transported to Glens Falls Hospital before being transferred to Albany Medical Center. He remains in critical condition. Witnesses reported that Mitchell had been walking in and out of traffic prior to the crash, and EMS personnel confirmed those observations at the scene.
According to State Police, the vehicle involved was a 2016 Jeep Cherokee that had exited the Northway and turned east onto Aviation Rd when it struck Mitchell. The driver of the Jeep underwent field sobriety tests, which authorities say he failed. A subsequent chemical breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.17%. The driver was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated before being released on his own recognizance. His arraignment is scheduled for September 8 at Queensbury Town Court. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
