Raleigh, NC (September 21, 2025) – Emergency responders from Raleigh rushed to the scene of a deadly crash on Friday night that claimed the life of a woman and sent several others to local hospitals with injuries.
The incident occurred just after 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Trailwood Dr and Tryon Rd. Authorities say a Honda Accord was attempting an unprotected U-turn onto Trailwood Dr from westbound Tryon Rd when it failed to yield to an eastbound Kia Forte that had the right-of-way under a green light.
Medics and fire crews worked to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision. Tragically, 39-year-old Lina Fernanda Ramos Velasco, a passenger in the Honda, succumbed to her injuries. All other occupants, including both drivers and additional passengers, were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Officials from the Raleigh Police Department stated that no charges have been filed at this time. The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the precise circumstances and any contributing factors.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Lina Fernanda Ramos Velasco during this devastating time.
Car Accidents in North Carolina
Crashes at intersections like Trailwood Dr and Tryon Rd underscore the dangers of unprotected turns and the importance of yielding to oncoming traffic. This fatal collision, occurring in the heart of Raleigh’s traffic network, brings renewed attention to local roadway safety, particularly in areas where traffic volumes are high and visibility may be compromised during evening hours.
According to regional crash data, intersections remain a common site for serious injury collisions, often due to right-of-way violations, speeding, or poor judgment during turns. In this case, the attempt to complete a U-turn across multiple lanes of traffic without a green arrow is a maneuver that can quickly turn fatal when miscalculated.
For those affected by this tragic crash, immediate medical care was administered, but recovery from the trauma—physical and emotional—extends beyond emergency treatment. Family members, especially those who lose a loved one, often face complex decisions around grief support, financial stability, and navigating legal resources.
In North Carolina, families dealing with fatal car crashes may benefit from understanding how wrongful death investigations are handled and what support systems are available. When no charges are filed, it doesn’t necessarily mean that civil legal options are unavailable. In many cases, independent investigations, traffic camera footage, and witness statements become essential in establishing accountability and supporting recovery efforts.
