Pedestrian Dangers on Massachusetts Roadways
Crashes involving pedestrians remain a significant concern across Massachusetts, particularly on busy corridors like Route 139. Areas with limited lighting or heavy vehicle traffic often pose risks for those crossing the street, especially at night.
In towns like Randolph, pedestrian safety initiatives have been introduced in recent years, including the addition of warning signage and crosswalk enhancements. However, even with safety measures in place, pedestrian fatalities still occur—often when visibility is low or driver response time is limited.
State officials continue to push for increased awareness among both drivers and pedestrians. The goal is to reduce incidents like Tuesday’s tragedy through education, improved road design, and ongoing enforcement.
