Winning Trials since 1979

Ray, MO (July 13, 2025) – Medics and fire crews worked to assist those suffering from injuries after a devastating single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning resulted in the death of a juvenile passenger. The incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. on Brady Creek Rd in Ray County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, an 18-year-old woman from Richmond was driving a 2020 Ford Fusion westbound when the vehicle veered off the roadway and overturned. The crash caused total damage to the car, which was later towed by Green’s Automotive.

A 14-year-old male occupant, also from Richmond, tragically died as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased at 1:13 a.m. by Medic Jared Cabin and was transported to Thurman’s Funeral Home. The driver’s condition has not been publicly disclosed.

The accident is being investigated by CPL D.K. Fletcher and M.C.I.U. MSGT J.M. Toal, with assistance from the Ray County Sheriff’s Department. This incident marks the 37th fatal crash and 40th traffic-related death reported this year in Troop A’s jurisdiction. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young victim during this incredibly difficult time.

The Dangers of Late-Night Rollover Crashes in Missouri

Single-vehicle rollover accidents, particularly during the early morning hours, are among the deadliest types of crashes on Missouri roads. In this case, the tragic loss of a young life in Ray County underscores how critical road safety is—especially for younger drivers navigating rural roads like Brady Creek Rd.

Statistically, nighttime driving increases the risk of serious crashes due to reduced visibility, driver fatigue, and limited response time. Missouri’s rural roads, while essential for local travel, often lack protective barriers and have sharper curves, making them more susceptible to high-impact rollovers when vehicles leave the pavement.

Young drivers are especially vulnerable due to inexperience and the challenges of handling emergency situations. The importance of wearing seatbelts and remaining attentive behind the wheel cannot be overstated, as many fatalities in single-vehicle incidents involve occupants being unrestrained or partially ejected.

Local communities like Richmond often feel the weight of such tragedies, particularly when young lives are cut short. As investigations continue, it serves as a solemn reminder for all drivers to prioritize safety, use caution during late-night travel, and adhere to posted speed limits and traffic laws.
