Reno, NV (February 7, 2025) – A pedestrian was fatally injured after being struck by a car on Kietzke Ln, just south of Moana Ln, on Thursday night. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly before 9:00 p.m., following reports of the vehicle versus pedestrian collision, according to News 4 & Fox 11.

The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries at the scene and was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The Reno Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) is currently investigating the crash. Authorities confirmed that the driver involved remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that speed and impairment do not appear to be contributing factors in the incident.

Further details, including the identity of the pedestrian, have not yet been released.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.

Pedestrian Safety and Risks in Reno

Pedestrian accidents, such as the tragic incident on Kietzke Ln, highlight the growing concern for pedestrian safety in urban areas like Reno. As the city continues to expand, with increased vehicle and foot traffic, the risk of pedestrian-related incidents rises, particularly along busy roadways and intersections.

According to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), pedestrian fatalities are a significant concern across the state, accounting for a considerable portion of traffic-related deaths annually. Contributing factors to these accidents often include distracted driving, failure to yield, and low visibility during evening hours. Although speed and impairment were ruled out in this particular incident, reduced lighting and heavy traffic volumes can still create hazardous conditions for pedestrians.

Both drivers and pedestrians can take steps to improve safety. Drivers should remain vigilant, especially in areas with high pedestrian activity, adhere to speed limits, and avoid distractions while driving. Pedestrians should use designated crosswalks, ensure they are visible to oncoming traffic, and stay alert when crossing busy streets.

In the aftermath of a pedestrian accident, immediate medical attention is crucial, even if injuries are not initially apparent. Families dealing with the loss of a loved one may face emotional distress and financial challenges, including medical expenses, funeral costs, and legal matters. Understanding your rights and seeking professional legal guidance can help navigate the complexities of such a tragic event.
