Richfield Twp, OH (January 2, 2025) – A tragic crash on I-77 Wednesday night claimed the life of 64-year-old Donald Chambers Jr. of Brunswick. The incident occurred shortly before 10 PM near milepost 144, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
Investigators reported that a Toyota Rav4 traveling southbound failed to “maintain assured cleared distance ahead” and collided with a disabled GMC that was stopped in the right lane. Chambers, the driver of the GMC, was transported to an Akron hospital, where he was pronounced dead. OSHP confirmed that Chambers was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Toyota suffered minor injuries and was also transported to the hospital. Authorities have stated that alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
Emergency responders from Richfield Township Police and Fire, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), and Miller’s Towing assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
