The driver of the truck was not injured.

Unusual Roadway Collisions in South Carolina
The collision on Sloan Rd highlights the dangers of crashes involving unconventional vehicles such as lawn mowers or all-terrain vehicles when they share space with larger, faster-moving traffic. While relatively rare, these incidents can have devastating outcomes due to the lack of protection for operators of smaller equipment. A rear-end impact, as in this case, often leaves little chance for survival given the size and weight difference between a passenger truck and a mower.
Richland County, with its mix of residential and rural roads, often sees both standard vehicles and utility equipment on local roadways. When these types of vehicles travel side by side, visibility, speed differentials, and limited shoulder space can all become contributing factors in accidents. Safety officials stress the importance of heightened awareness for drivers, particularly during evening hours when visibility is reduced.
For families impacted by crashes like this, the aftermath involves not only grief but also difficult questions regarding responsibility, roadway safety, and future prevention. Accessing accident reports, medical records, and available support services can be essential in navigating such a devastating loss.
