Riverside, CA (April 13, 2025) – A motorcycle rider sustained major injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Friday afternoon on I-15 South, just south of the Indian Truck Trl interchange, prompting a rapid emergency response and partial freeway shutdown near Temescal Canyon.
The collision was first reported around 3:59 p.m., involving a black motorcycle and a fleeing black sedan. The motorcyclist, dressed in all black, was thrown from the bike and found down in the #1 lane (fast lane) of the freeway. First responders, including paramedics and California Highway Patrol, arrived quickly to assist. Medics and fire crews worked to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision, and the rider was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center with major injuries.
Bystanders, including a reporting party, stopped their vehicle in the #1 lane to shield the rider from oncoming traffic until help arrived. Traffic was heavily impacted as CHP officers temporarily blocked lanes for emergency operations. A white Tesla driver remained on the scene and provided information about the fleeing vehicle to investigators.
California Highway Patrol is actively investigating the incident as a felony hit-and-run. As of this report, the suspect vehicle has not been located, and no arrests have been made. The injured rider’s family has been notified.
Our thoughts are with the motorcyclist and their loved ones as they begin the difficult recovery journey.
Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Accidents in Southern California
High-speed corridors like I-15 are especially dangerous for motorcyclists, who are vulnerable to serious or life-threatening injuries in crashes—particularly when other drivers fail to remain at the scene. The Temescal Canyon area is a known congestion point for commuters traveling between Riverside and Corona, with high lane-changing activity and limited escape routes for vulnerable road users.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, hit-and-run crashes involving motorcycles are unfortunately common in Southern California and often involve drivers who flee before accountability can be established. The fast lane, where this crash occurred, provides little room for evasive action when vehicles are involved in sudden collisions or lane intrusions.
Victims of such incidents face overwhelming challenges—physical recovery, emotional trauma, and financial burdens from medical expenses or lost income. Legal options are available to pursue justice and compensation, even when the responsible party initially escapes. Investigators often rely on witness statements, surveillance footage, and vehicle descriptions to track down hit-and-run suspects.
