Robstown, TX (January 17, 2026) – A devastating two-vehicle collision in Nueces County has left two people dead and multiple others critically injured, including three children. The crash occurred at the intersection of County Rd 36 and County Rd 77, just outside of Robstown, and remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
According to DPS Sgt. Rob Mallory, a preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 Ford Ranger was traveling westbound on County Rd 36 when it failed to stop at a posted stop sign. The vehicle entered the intersection and collided with a 2005 Buick Rendezvous traveling southbound on County Rd 77. The Buick, driven by 35-year-old Randy Rubio of Corpus Christi, was struck on the driver’s side, causing both vehicles to veer off the roadway.
Emergency medical services responded swiftly to the scene, but tragically, Rubio was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. He had been traveling with his three children, ages 12, 5, and 4, all of whom sustained critical injuries in the impact.
Two of the children were transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital, while the third child was initially taken to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital before being transferred. Sadly, the 4-year-old was pronounced dead early Friday morning due to the severity of injuries.
The driver of the Ford Ranger was also critically injured and was airlifted by HALO Flight to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital. As of the latest reports, he remains in critical condition.
Troopers with the Highway Patrol Office in Corpus Christi continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this fatal crash. No further information has been released.
Our deepest condolences go out to the Rubio family and all those affected by this tragic accident.
