Rochester, MN (September 1, 2024) – A two-vehicle crash in Rochester resulted in one person being hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred around 9:58 a.m. near the ramp from U.S. Highway 14 to southbound U.S. Highway 52, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The collision took place when a 2023 Subaru Impreza, driven by 29-year-old Lynn Marie Mishark of Scottsdale, AZ, was heading westbound on Civic Center Dr and attempting to merge onto the US-52 SB on-ramp. At the same time, a 2014 Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on US-14. The two vehicles collided at the intersection.
Paramedics from Mayo Clinic Ambulance responded to the scene and transported the driver of the Toyota Camry, 42-year-old Kyle Ryan Krenzke of Byron, to St. Mary’s Hospital. Authorities confirmed he sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Mishark, the Subaru driver, was unharmed and did not require medical treatment.
Both vehicles sustained damage in the crash, with airbags deployed in the Toyota Camry. No signs of alcohol involvement were reported by investigators, and the roadway was dry at the time of the collision.
Authorities continue to review the incident. No citations have been issued yet, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Our thoughts go out to Mr. Krenzke as he recovers, and we hope for a smooth and complete healing process.
Car Accidents in Minnesota
The crash on U.S. Highway 14 near the US-52 SB ramp serves as a reminder of how quickly everyday driving maneuvers, like merging or crossing traffic, can result in serious collisions. Interchange areas such as this one, where multiple traffic flows converge at varying speeds, are frequently the site of injury crashes across Minnesota.
According to recent state data, Olmsted County continues to see a notable number of crashes at major intersections and highway access points. Merging zones and ramps, especially near Civic Center Dr and Highway 52, can be particularly dangerous due to lane changes, speeding, and misjudgments of oncoming traffic.
While the road conditions were clear at the time, the geometry of highway ramps and high-speed travel makes split-second errors more consequential. Even with proper seat belt use, as in this case, drivers can still suffer injuries when impact forces are significant or one vehicle strikes at an angle.
For victims of collisions like the one involving Mr. Krenzke, dealing with physical recovery is only part of the challenge. Hospital visits, transportation loss, and missed work can all compound the stress of the situation. Knowing what resources are available and how to protect your rights is essential in the days and weeks that follow.
