Rockbridge County, VA (September 13, 2025) – A tragic crash occurred Thursday, September 11, at approximately 3:38 p.m. on southbound Interstate 81 at the 199.6-mile marker in Rockbridge County, Virginia. The crash, which involved two vehicles, resulted in the death of 23-year-old Domingo Sanchez-Lopez, a passenger in the Ford involved in the collision.
According to Virginia State Police (VSP), the crash occurred when a 1995 Ford Super Wagon was traveling southbound on I-81. A 2004 Freightliner tractor-trailer merged into the Ford’s lane, causing the driver of the Ford to take evasive action. The Ford swerved to avoid the collision but lost control, crashing into the median and rolling over several times.
Domingo Sanchez-Lopez, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Rockbridge Community Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the Ford and two other passengers were also injured but sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet provided further details on the circumstances leading up to the accident.
