Winning Trials since 1979

Saginaw, MI (February 5, 2025) – A tragic fire at Pinewood Manor on Tuesday morning resulted in the death of one individual and left several residents displaced.

Saginaw firefighters were dispatched to the six-story apartment building, located at 2715 S. Jefferson St., after an automatic fire alarm activated just before 8 a.m. Upon arrival, Engine 2 personnel discovered a working fire on the fourth floor. Firefighters quickly initiated a search and rescue operation, locating one occupant inside the affected unit. Despite being rushed to the hospital for treatment, the individual succumbed to their injuries.

Emergency responders worked swiftly to contain the flames, successfully extinguishing the fire and preventing it from spreading beyond the apartment of origin. However, significant smoke and water damage extended beyond the unit. Fire crews also managed to rescue a dog from the apartment.

To assist affected residents, the Saginaw Public School District provided buses as temporary shelters while firefighters worked to secure the scene. The American Red Cross and the Saginaw Housing Commission are actively coordinating efforts to find temporary accommodations for displaced residents.

Following an investigation, the Saginaw Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire was accidental.

Residential Fires in Michigan

Apartment fires pose a significant risk to residents, particularly in multi-story buildings where flames and smoke can spread quickly. In Michigan, residential fires account for a substantial number of fire-related fatalities each year. The incident at Pinewood Manor highlights the importance of fire safety measures and early detection systems.

Building fires can be caused by various factors, including electrical malfunctions, unattended cooking, and heating equipment failures. While the exact cause of this fire was deemed accidental, it serves as a reminder of the need for fire prevention practices. Installing and regularly testing smoke alarms, ensuring electrical systems are up to code, and having a fire escape plan can significantly reduce fire-related risks.

The quick response of the Saginaw Fire Department and the support from local organizations demonstrate the importance of community resources in times of crisis. Residents displaced by fires often face challenges securing temporary housing and replacing lost belongings, making assistance from groups like the Red Cross crucial.

If you or a loved one have been impacted by a fire, it is essential to understand your options for recovery and support. Seeking guidance from professionals who understand fire-related claims can help navigate the aftermath of such tragic events.
