Saline County, MO (August 22, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 70 on Thursday night left one man hospitalized with significant injuries. The collision occurred at mile marker 86.6, just after 9:18 p.m., and was investigated by Trooper J. W. Hunter of Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A, with assistance from multiple officers and the Saline County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the official crash report, the incident occurred when a 2023 Dodge Challenger, driven by a 43-year-old woman from Warsaw, struck the rear of a 2017 Nissan Titan traveling in the same direction. Upon impact, the Nissan veered off the left side of the interstate, crashed into the cable barrier, and overturned. The Dodge ran off the right side of the roadway and came to rest in a ditch.
Both vehicles sustained major damage; the Titan was totaled and towed by Don’s Towing, while the Challenger sustained extensive damage and was removed by National Towing.
A 58-year-old male occupant of the Nissan Titan, from Parkville, suffered serious injuries and was transported by Cooper County EMS to the University of Missouri Hospital for advanced treatment. Authorities confirmed that both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
The investigation remains active. No citations have been announced, and the identities of the involved parties have not been released publicly.

Rear-End Crashes on Missouri Interstates
Thursday night’s crash on I-70 in Saline County highlights the devastating outcomes that can result from high-speed rear-end collisions on Missouri’s interstate highways. When a vehicle traveling at interstate speeds strikes another from behind, the force can cause secondary impacts, such as rollovers or barrier strikes, that significantly increase injury risk.
In this case, the impact was strong enough to cause a rollover of the struck vehicle and a loss of control for both involved drivers. Rollovers are particularly dangerous and often lead to serious or life-threatening injuries, especially if the vehicle flips multiple times or comes to rest in an unsafe position.
Interstate 70 is one of the most heavily traveled corridors in Missouri, with a mix of commercial, commuter, and through traffic. Visibility is often limited at night, and fatigue, distraction, or following too closely can all contribute to serious accidents like this one.
For the seriously injured occupant, the path forward will likely involve hospitalization, potential surgeries, rehabilitation, and time away from work and family. Navigating medical care and insurance claims during this time can be overwhelming, particularly when serious trauma is involved.
Drivers are urged to maintain a safe following distance, reduce speed in evening hours, and remain alert to traffic patterns ahead. Even a few seconds of delayed reaction can lead to severe consequences at highway speeds.
