Saline County, KS (September 24, 2025) – Emergency responders from Saline County Fire Districts and EMS crews were dispatched Tuesday morning following a single-vehicle crash that resulted in injuries to two young individuals. The collision occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. along Farrelly Rd, just west of Woodward.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a Nissan Murano traveling eastbound lost control and veered off the road before crashing into a tree. The driver, identified as a 17-year-old girl from Salina, was behind the wheel when the vehicle left the roadway. A 12-year-old boy riding as a passenger was also injured.
First responders arrived promptly and provided care to both the driver and the passenger. Emergency medical services transported both individuals to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries. Despite the severity of the impact, all occupants were able to be safely removed from the vehicle without the need for extrication.
The incident remains under investigation as troopers work to determine the exact cause of the crash. Authorities have not released the names of those involved, and further updates will be made available as new details emerge.
We send our well wishes to the young individuals injured and hope for a full and swift recovery.
Single-Vehicle Accidents in Kansas
Tuesday morning’s crash in rural Saline County illustrates how quickly conditions can lead to dangerous outcomes—even on quiet local roads. While Farrelly Rd lies outside densely populated areas, rural roadways often present unique hazards such as narrow shoulders, uneven surfaces, and limited visibility, all of which can contribute to loss of vehicle control.
In this incident, a 17-year-old driver and a 12-year-old passenger sustained injuries when their vehicle collided with a tree. Despite being categorized as minor, injuries involving teenagers and children require careful attention, not only medically but emotionally, as recovery can involve multiple layers of support.
The Kansas Highway Patrol continues to investigate the contributing factors. Common causes of rural single-vehicle accidents often include overcorrection, speeding, and inexperience—particularly when younger drivers are involved. Teen drivers, though often responsible, are statistically more likely to be involved in accidents due to limited time behind the wheel and increased reaction times under stress.
This crash underscores the importance of comprehensive driver education, especially for new motorists navigating unfamiliar or challenging terrain. Additionally, it raises awareness about seatbelt use and child passenger safety measures, which play critical roles in reducing injury severity.
In the wake of any accident, families may face difficult questions—medical follow-ups, insurance concerns, and emotional recovery. In rural areas, access to trusted resources can make a meaningful difference in how families manage these situations.
