San Andreas, CA (February 6, 2025) – A serious collision on Tuesday afternoon in San Andreas left one person dead and another seriously injured, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Highway 12, west of Central Hill Rd. A 16-year-old boy from Valley Springs was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado westbound when he attempted to move into the slow lane but noticed another vehicle occupying the lane. In an effort to avoid a collision, the teen swerved back into the fast lane, losing control and sliding into oncoming traffic.
The Silverado sideswiped a 2014 Jeep Cherokee driven by Weston Stu Lac, 27, of Columbia. The Jeep was then forced into a head-on collision with an eastbound 2005 Dodge Ram truck driven by Tara Miller, 54, of Arnold.
Miller sustained major injuries and was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital for treatment. A passenger in Miller’s vehicle was taken to Mark Twain Medical Center, where they were sadly pronounced deceased.
No other injuries were reported in the crash. The CHP confirmed that DUI is not suspected as a factor in the incident, which remains under investigation to determine any other contributing causes.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the deceased passenger, and we extend our best wishes for a swift recovery to Tara Miller.
Head-On Collisions in California
Head-on collisions are among the most dangerous types of vehicle accidents, often resulting in severe injuries or fatalities due to the direct impact forces involved. In 2023, the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) reported a significant number of fatal crashes caused by head-on collisions, particularly on rural highways like Highway 12 near San Andreas.
Common causes of head-on collisions include swerving into oncoming traffic, driver distraction, speeding, and overcorrecting when attempting to avoid obstacles. Rural roads with limited lanes and minimal barriers between opposing traffic can increase the risk of such accidents.
Victims of head-on collisions often suffer from life-altering injuries, including spinal trauma, broken bones, and head injuries. These crashes also lead to emotional distress and financial burdens, especially when a loved one is lost. Surviving family members may have grounds for a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for funeral costs, medical expenses, and other damages.
If you or someone you know has been affected by a serious or fatal accident, it is important to understand your legal rights and options. Speaking with a knowledgeable professional can help ensure that you receive the support and compensation you deserve.
