San Antonio, TX (February 6, 2025) – A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash on the West Side of San Antonio on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:08 p.m. on U.S. Highway 90 near Hunt Lane, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Witnesses and SAPD reported that the motorcyclist was speeding and lane-splitting before losing control of the motorcycle. The preliminary report indicates that the rider veered into the center grassy median and crashed into metal cables. The force of the impact caused the man to be thrown from the motorcycle, and he became entangled in the cables.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead shortly after the crash. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet identified the victim as of Thursday morning.

Part of U.S. Highway 90 was closed for several hours following the accident as authorities investigated the scene and cleared debris. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.

Motorcycle Accidents in Texas: Risks and Safety Considerations

Motorcycle accidents, like the tragic crash on U.S. Highway 90 in San Antonio, are often severe due to the limited protection motorcycles provide compared to other vehicles. Speeding and lane-splitting, both common factors in motorcycle crashes, significantly increase the risk of losing control and suffering life-threatening injuries.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, motorcycle fatalities remain a serious concern in the state, with thousands of riders injured or killed annually. Factors contributing to these accidents include speeding, sudden lane changes, distracted driving, and unsafe road conditions. Highways, where traffic moves at higher speeds and lane changes are frequent, are particularly hazardous for motorcyclists.

The emotional and financial impact of motorcycle accidents can be devastating for families. Beyond the immediate loss of life or injury, loved ones often face funeral expenses, medical bills, and long-term emotional trauma. In cases where a fatal accident involves negligence—whether by the rider or other drivers—surviving family members may be entitled to pursue legal action for wrongful death.

Motorcyclists are encouraged to prioritize safety by wearing protective gear, obeying speed limits, and avoiding risky behaviors like lane-splitting. Additionally, drivers of other vehicles must remain vigilant for motorcycles, especially when changing lanes or merging on highways.
