San Antonio, TX (February 7, 2025) – A motorcyclist was killed in a tragic multi-vehicle crash on the Northeast Side of San Antonio on Thursday evening, according to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD). The collision occurred around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Higgins Rd and Uhr Ln, involving three vehicles.
Authorities reported that the crash involved a 61-year-old man riding a yellow 2014 Honda Goldwing. The motorcyclist was traveling southeast on Higgins Rd when he failed to stop at a four-way stop, leading to a collision with a black 2010 Nissan Xterra. The Nissan was turning left from Uhr Ln onto Higgins Rd when the impact occurred.
The force of the collision redirected the Honda Goldwing, causing it to strike a black 2017 Chevrolet Corvette that was in the turn lane, preparing to make a left turn onto Uhr Rd. The motorcyclist was ejected from his bike upon impact and struck the curb. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identities of the individuals involved have not yet been released, and the crash remains under investigation.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the motorcyclist during this difficult time.
Motorcycle Safety and Risks in Texas
Motorcycle accidents, like the tragic crash that occurred on Higgins Rd and Uhr Ln, often result in severe or fatal injuries due to the lack of protection that motorcycles offer compared to enclosed vehicles. Texas, with its expansive roadways and year-round riding conditions, reports a high number of motorcycle-related accidents annually. According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), over 500 motorcyclists were killed on Texas roads in 2023 alone.
Intersections are particularly hazardous for motorcyclists, as they account for a significant percentage of crashes involving motorcycles. Factors such as failing to yield, disregarding traffic signals, or misjudging the speed of oncoming vehicles can contribute to these collisions. In this case, the failure to stop at a four-way stop resulted in a chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles.
Riders are encouraged to prioritize safety by adhering to traffic laws, wearing protective gear, and maintaining a heightened awareness of their surroundings. Helmets, reflective clothing, and defensive driving techniques can significantly reduce the risk of severe injuries or fatalities. For drivers of other vehicles, it’s essential to stay alert for motorcycles, particularly at intersections, and give them adequate space on the road.
When accidents occur, victims and their families may face emotional trauma, financial burdens, and complex legal challenges. In fatal crashes, families may consider seeking legal guidance to understand their rights and explore potential claims for wrongful death or compensation related to the accident.
