San Diego, CA (January 17, 2026) – A bicyclist was injured in a collision with a vehicle near a four-way stop intersection close to W A St in downtown San Diego, prompting a medical response from local emergency teams.
The crash occurred around 7:09 PM PST and involved a 23-year-old male cyclist and a four-door sedan. According to reports from San Diego Fire and Rescue, both the bicyclist and the vehicle were stopped at opposing corners of the intersection before proceeding into the roadway. As both entered the intersection, the cyclist struck the front of the sedan, impacting the hood and briefly bouncing off the vehicle.
Emergency responders assessed the bicyclist at the scene and confirmed that he sustained injuries to his right elbow and right knee. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Despite receiving a thorough medical evaluation, the patient declined ambulance transport to the hospital and opted to remain at the scene. Paramedics noted that he was alert, oriented, and fully aware of the possible risks of refusing further medical care.
The sedan involved was reportedly moving at a low speed—estimated between zero and 5 mph—as it made a left-hand turn. Damage to the vehicle was minimal, limited to a mild dent on the hood. The bicycle also sustained minor damage.
No other injuries were reported, and no traffic citations or violations have been disclosed. Authorities remained on scene to ensure safety and document the incident.
Our thoughts are with the injured cyclist, and we hope for his continued recovery following the incident.
