San Diego, CA (January 17, 2026) – Emergency medical crews responded to a traffic collision involving a 67-year-old driver Friday afternoon near Claremont Sq in the La Jolla area of San Diego. The crash occurred around 2:28 p.m. and involved a midsize sedan that sustained moderate front-end damage after being struck in an intersection.
Paramedics with La Jolla Fire and Rescue evaluated the restrained male driver, who was alert and oriented but reported stiffness and tingling in his neck and left hand. He had been traveling through the intersection when his vehicle collided with another, resulting in airbag deployment. Despite his initial request for transport to Kaiser SDMC, the patient agreed to be taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital due to trauma protocol considerations.
Emergency responders treated the man on scene, applying a cervical collar and monitoring his vital signs before transporting him for further evaluation. No loss of consciousness or external trauma was reported.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver as he continues his recovery.
