San Diego, CA (August 5, 2025) – A serious multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 near Via De La Valle resulted in multiple injuries Tuesday afternoon, leading to a large-scale emergency response and significant traffic delays in the area.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 3:47 p.m. on the southbound side of I-5 near the Via De La Valle exit. Reports confirmed at least five vehicles were involved, including a silver Toyota Camry, a Ford Excursion, a black BMW, and a brown Chevrolet. Some of the vehicles were found in the HOV lane while others had been pushed onto the right-hand shoulder.
Emergency responders, including fire crews and medical personnel, assessed the scene and provided treatment to the injured parties. At least one ambulance was dispatched (1141 Enroute), and several individuals required care for moderate injuries. The exact number of those hospitalized has not yet been confirmed.
Due to the severity of the crash and the number of vehicles involved, both the carpool and right-hand lanes were blocked for a significant time. CHP officers and Freeway Service Patrol units worked to manage traffic flow and coordinate vehicle removals. The incident was officially cleared by CHP shortly before 5:00 p.m., but residual delays continued for commuters heading southbound into San Diego.
