San Diego, CA (September 10, 2025) – Emergency crews responded Tuesday evening to a multi-vehicle accident with injuries on the southbound lanes of Highway 163 near the Friars Bridge overpass. The collision, which occurred around 7:47 p.m., prompted a high-priority medical response and caused significant traffic delays in the area.
First responders from San Diego Fire and Rescue were quick to reach the scene, navigating heavy traffic and access challenges along the southbound route. According to radio dispatch communications, medics and fire crews located the crash just north of Friars Bridge, where multiple vehicles had collided and one individual was found injured and in need of medical attention.
Paramedics assessed the injured party and coordinated care despite limited availability of emergency transport units at the time. Emergency medical services described the patient as requiring immediate attention, with dispatch classifying the event as a high-acuity “7 Echo” response—indicating a serious injury incident such as burns, scalds, or other trauma.
Due to the location of the wreck and traffic obstructions, emergency vehicles had to reroute from the northbound side and re-enter the southbound lanes to reach the scene, further complicating response efforts. While the full extent of injuries has not been disclosed, responders confirmed one patient received on-site treatment as operations continued into the evening.
Authorities worked to clear the roadway and direct traffic away from the crash zone. Investigators have not yet released information regarding the cause of the accident but are expected to review footage and witness accounts as part of their ongoing examination.
We extend our sincerest thoughts to those impacted by this incident and wish the injured individual a smooth and complete recovery.
