San Diego, CA (September 23, 2025) – A 31-year-old woman lost her life Sunday after she was struck by a vehicle while walking near the Westfield UTC mall in University City. The fatal incident occurred at the intersection of La Jolla Village Dr and Genesee Ave.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the woman had been walking along the center median when she suddenly stepped into the eastbound inside lane of La Jolla Village Dr. A sedan traveling in that lane struck the pedestrian shortly after she entered the roadway.
Emergency crews responded and transported the injured woman to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, she was later pronounced dead from her injuries.
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the sedan remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the investigation. At this time, officials do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
The incident remains under active investigation by local authorities.
