San Francisco, CA (September 20, 2024) – A multi-lane traffic collision with injuries was reported Saturday afternoon on the westbound side of I-80, just east of Fremont St, significantly impacting traffic in downtown San Francisco.
The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m., prompting a response from emergency medical teams and the California Highway Patrol. At least one person was injured in the incident and treated at the scene. The extent of the injuries has not been released, but the crash was serious enough to result in lane closures and major delays throughout the area.
Multiple westbound lanes of I-80 were temporarily blocked while responders worked to assist the injured, remove damaged vehicles, and investigate the scene. Tow services were also dispatched, and motorists were advised to avoid the area or seek alternate routes as traffic quickly backed up during the afternoon hours.
Fremont St is a critical connector within San Francisco’s downtown corridor, and I-80 is one of the busiest highways in the Bay Area—serving both local and interstate traffic. Crashes in this area often result in extended disruptions due to the high volume of vehicles and limited detour options.
An active investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
Our thoughts are with those injured, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.
