San Luis Obispo County, CA (September 24, 2025) – One person tragically lost their life Monday afternoon following a fiery single-vehicle crash near Nacimiento Lake in rural San Luis Obispo County.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred just after 2:00 p.m. on Nacimiento Lake Dr near the intersection with Steelhead Rd. A vehicle was traveling in the area when it veered off the roadway and crashed near the intersection. Shortly after the impact, the car caught fire, and the blaze quickly spread to surrounding vegetation.
Firefighters arrived on scene and worked diligently to contain the flames and prevent further damage to the area. Despite their efforts, the driver was declared deceased at the scene. No other occupants were reported in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased individual, pending notification of next of kin. Investigators are working to determine what led to the crash and whether speed, mechanical failure, or other factors played a role.
