The impact caused significant damage and temporarily shut down lanes on the southbound 405 during overnight hours.
Investigators are continuing to examine the cause of the crash and whether speed, driver behavior, or other factors contributed to the fatal outcome. The involvement of a Caltrans vehicle suggests roadwork or maintenance operations may have been underway at the time.
