Santa Rosa County, FL (July 2, 2025) – A serious crash involving a tractor-trailer caused major traffic disruptions Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 10 in Santa Rosa County. The crash occurred on the westbound side of the highway near mile marker 34, prompting emergency lane closures and extensive traffic backups throughout the area.
According to Florida 511, the crash was reported around 3:38 p.m. and initially blocked all westbound lanes near the SA Jones overpass bridge. Eastbound traffic was also affected, reduced to one lane at the time of the incident. The Florida Department of Transportation labeled the crash as “major” in severity, and first responders worked for several hours to clear the scene and restore traffic flow.
By 5:00 p.m., officials confirmed that traffic had resumed on I-10 westbound, though residual delays continued into the evening as crews completed cleanup and recovery. The cause of the crash has not yet been released, and it is unclear whether anyone was injured in the incident.
We extend our gratitude to the emergency crews who worked to safely manage the crash and restore travel through the area.
Tractor-Trailer Crashes on Florida Interstates
Crashes involving tractor-trailers on Florida’s interstate highways—such as I-10 in Santa Rosa County—often result in significant traffic disruptions and pose serious risks to drivers. These types of incidents can be particularly dangerous due to the size and weight of commercial vehicles, which can lead to rollovers, jackknifing, or multi-vehicle collisions when control is lost.
Mile marker 34 on I-10 is a heavily traveled route for both local and through traffic. Interchange congestion, changing weather conditions, and speed differentials between passenger vehicles and freight haulers can all contribute to high-impact crashes in this area.
According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, commercial vehicle crashes on interstates are more likely to result in extended closures due to the scale of damage and the hazardous materials or cargo they may carry. While it is fortunate that traffic has resumed, the risk of secondary crashes and injury remains high during the immediate aftermath of such events.
When large-scale crashes like this occur, impacted drivers and passengers may face not only delays but also vehicle damage, injuries, and long-term consequences. Navigating insurance claims and medical care after a commercial vehicle crash can be complex and time-sensitive.
