Seneca, NY (August 11, 2025) – A juvenile riding a motorcycle was critically injured Sunday night in a collision with a car on Flat St, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say the motorcycle was traveling southbound when it struck a Ford Mustang, also headed south, that was in the process of completing a K-turn in the roadway.
The impact left the young motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries. Mercy Flight airlifted the rider to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for emergency treatment. Officials have not released an updated condition.
Both drivers involved in the crash were juveniles with valid driver’s licenses; however, deputies noted the motorcycle operator did not possess a motorcycle license. The incident remains under investigation.
Flat St was closed between Robson Rd and Kashong Switch Rd for roughly three and a half hours while authorities documented the scene and cleared the roadway.
Our thoughts are with the injured rider, and we hope for a full and swift recovery.
Motorcycle Accidents in New York
Sunday’s crash in Seneca underscores the heightened risks for motorcyclists, particularly young and inexperienced riders. Without the protection of an enclosed vehicle, motorcyclists are highly vulnerable to severe injuries in collisions—even at moderate speeds. Maneuvers like U-turns and K-turns can create sudden roadway hazards if approaching traffic is unable to see or stop in time.
New York traffic data shows that rider inexperience, lack of proper licensing, and limited visibility are significant factors in many motorcycle injury crashes. Wearing protective gear, maintaining safe speeds, and ensuring proper licensing and training are essential for reducing risks.
Local Accident Reports urges all motorists to check for motorcycles before turning or changing lanes and to allow ample space when sharing the road.
