Sidney, NY (August 13, 2025) – A child was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident on West Main Street in Sidney at approximately 8:46 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025. Sidney Police responded to the scene after receiving reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the child, who was riding a bicycle on the sidewalk, attempted to cross the Sherman Avenue intersection. While in the intersection, the child was struck by a vehicle turning right onto Sherman Avenue. The vehicle did not stop after the collision and continued, believed to have turned right onto Union Street.
The child, who sustained injuries from the crash, was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center for treatment. Fortunately, after receiving medical care, the child was later released. The extent of the injuries has not been detailed, but the airlift indicates the severity of the impact.
Sidney Police are now investigating the incident and are requesting the public’s help in identifying the vehicle and driver involved. The vehicle is believed to be a white, mid-sized sedan. Police are asking residents in the area to review security camera footage that might have captured the incident or the suspect vehicle.
