Simpson County, MS (July 8, 2025) – A deadly collision on Sunday afternoon in Simpson County left one man dead and two others injured. The crash occurred around 12:21 p.m. on Highway 28 and involved two vehicles traveling in opposite directions.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), 22-year-old Jadarrian Burton of Prentiss was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound when it collided head-on with a 2020 Ford F-150 traveling west. The pickup truck was being driven by 77-year-old Judith Polk, who had a passenger, 48-year-old John Polk, also of Prentiss.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly at the scene and transported both occupants of the Ford F-150 to Magee General Hospital with injuries. The severity of those injuries has not yet been confirmed. Tragically, Burton sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol has launched a full investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the collision.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Jadarrian Burton, and we hope for a full recovery for Judith and John Polk.

Fatal Crashes on Mississippi Highways

Sunday’s devastating crash on Highway 28 in Simpson County illustrates the dangers that rural Mississippi roadways can pose. Head-on collisions are among the deadliest types of accidents, often leaving little time for drivers to react and avoid impact. In this case, one young life was lost while two others were injured under yet-unconfirmed circumstances.

Rural highways like Hwy 28 often lack physical barriers between opposing lanes of traffic, and even minor deviations in lane position can have fatal consequences. These routes may also have limited shoulder space and fewer visual cues, increasing the chances of dangerous situations during turns, speed changes, or driver inattention.

As the Mississippi Highway Patrol continues its investigation, families impacted by this crash are left dealing with the physical, emotional, and legal aftermath. In fatal collisions, survivors and relatives often face difficult decisions involving insurance claims, hospital costs, and legal follow-up.

For families dealing with the consequences of a deadly crash like this one, resources and guidance can be vital.
