Smelterville, ID (September 10, 2025) – A tragic motorcycle accident claimed the life of a woman and injured a man Saturday morning on westbound Interstate 90 near Smelterville in Shoshone County, according to Idaho State Police.
The crash occurred around 10:25 AM on September 7th, 2025, at milepost 48.5. Authorities reported that a 67-year-old man from Kingston, Idaho, was operating a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle when the vehicle’s rear tire suddenly blew out. The blowout caused the rider to lose control, resulting in a violent crash.
Riding as a passenger on the motorcycle was a 66-year-old woman, also from Kingston. Both individuals were reportedly wearing helmets at the time of the crash; however, the passenger’s helmet detached during the collision. Despite emergency response efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The male driver was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been released.
The right lane of I-90 westbound was closed for approximately two hours while troopers investigated the scene and crews worked to clear the roadway. Next of kin has been notified, and the Idaho State Police confirm that the investigation is ongoing.
