Smith Twp, OH (March 14, 2025) – Two people were hospitalized following a crash in Mahoning County on Thursday morning that left both vehicles with serious damage.

The accident occurred around 9 a.m. at the intersection of Oyster and Middletown Road. According to the Sebring Fire Department, emergency responders arrived to find two individuals trapped in their vehicles. Fire crews worked to extricate them before both were transported to Aultman Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities confirmed that a dog was also inside one of the vehicles but was unharmed.

Investigators determined that the crash happened when a truck driver, who was from out of state, failed to stop at a stop sign on Middletown Road. The driver was cited for failure to stop.

Local officials have not released additional details, but the crash remains under review.

We extend our well wishes to the injured individuals and hope for their full recovery.

Intersection Accidents in Ohio

Collisions at intersections, especially those involving stop sign violations, are a common cause of injuries and fatalities in Ohio. Failing to yield or stop at posted signs significantly increases the risk of broadside and high-impact crashes, often leading to severe injuries.

In rural areas like Smith Township, drivers may be less familiar with local road layouts, making it even more critical to remain vigilant at intersections. According to state crash data, failure-to-yield violations contribute to a large percentage of accidents at two-way stop intersections.

To help reduce these incidents, drivers should:

  • Come to a complete stop at all stop signs, even if the road appears clear.
  • Look both ways and check for oncoming traffic before proceeding.
  • Stay alert in unfamiliar areas, particularly at rural or less-trafficked intersections.
  • Follow posted speed limits to allow for proper reaction time.

Injured victims of intersection crashes may have legal options to recover compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages. If you or a loved one has been hurt in an accident caused by another driver’s negligence, speaking with a legal professional can help you understand your rights and next steps.
