Snyder, TX (September 23, 2025) – Two people were tragically killed and two others sustained serious injuries following a multi-vehicle collision that occurred Monday night in Scurry County. The fatal crash took place along US-180 at approximately 9:05 p.m., involving an 18-wheeler and two passenger vehicles.
The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that 32-year-old Orlando Tello and 59-year-old Silvia Lemon, both from Lamesa, were traveling in one of the vehicles and were pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Judge Joe Lay. The truck driver involved was not injured in the crash.
Two additional victims, identified as 44-year-old Sid Rodriquez from Snyder and 41-year-old Aleshia Lucero from Lubbock, were seriously injured in the collision. Rodriquez was transported to UMC Lubbock, while Lucero was taken to Hendrick Medical Center for treatment.
According to preliminary findings, the driver of the 18-wheeler and the second vehicle were both heading westbound on US-180. The third vehicle, approaching from the east, reportedly crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and collided with both westbound vehicles.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims, and we hope for a full recovery for those injured.
Deadly Crashes on US Highways in Texas
This devastating crash near Snyder illustrates how quickly lives can be changed on rural Texas highways like US-180. With long stretches of open road and limited lighting, high-speed collisions often result in catastrophic consequences—especially when multiple vehicles are involved.
US-180 is a key route connecting various West Texas communities, and while it supports heavy truck traffic and commuter vehicles alike, its two-lane structure can create dangerous conditions when drivers lose control or drift into oncoming lanes. In this case, investigators are still working to understand what caused the eastbound vehicle to veer across the centerline.
Multi-vehicle collisions involving semis are particularly hazardous, as passenger vehicles typically absorb the brunt of the impact. Tragically, this wreck took the lives of two individuals from Lamesa and left two others with serious bodily injuries—reminding us of the unforgiving nature of highway crashes.
In the aftermath of such accidents, families are left dealing with overwhelming loss, injury, and uncertainty. While emergency care is the first step, ongoing recovery often includes medical follow-up, emotional support, and help navigating legal and financial challenges.
