South Pierce County, WA (March 11, 2025) – Two Yelm residents were injured in a serious crash on State Route 702 Saturday afternoon after a suspected DUI driver ran a stop sign.
According to authorities, the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. when a 66-year-old Lewis County man was traveling north on Eighth Avenue near McKenna. Reports indicate that he failed to stop at a posted stop sign and collided with an eastbound vehicle on SR-702.
Emergency responders transported the two injured victims, ages 44 and 43, to Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup for treatment. Their current conditions have not been released.
Authorities arrested the Lewis County driver on vehicular assault charges, citing impairment as a suspected factor in the crash. The roadway remained blocked for over three hours while crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the incident.
