Spanish Fork, UT (August 27, 2025) – A tragic crash on State Route 6 Tuesday morning claimed the life of a 43-year-old woman after her SUV collided with a semitruck and overturned near milepost 231.
According to the Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS), the fatal incident occurred during the morning hours of August 26. A white Toyota Sequoia was traveling eastbound on SR-6 when it crossed the centerline and sideswiped a westbound semi. The impact caused the Toyota to veer off the road, breaking through a guardrail before plunging down an embankment.
During the crash, the driver’s door of the SUV was torn open, and the woman behind the wheel was ejected from the vehicle. The Toyota ultimately overturned, coming to rest with the driver pinned underneath. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and confirmed the woman had died from her injuries. Her identity has not yet been released publicly.
The semi came to a stop along the eastbound shoulder of SR-6, facing west. The driver of the truck was reportedly uninjured. Authorities noted that while it had been raining and the road was wet at the time of the crash, there was no evidence to suggest the Toyota lost control before crossing into oncoming traffic.
The Utah Highway Patrol and DPS continue to investigate the incident. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the woman lost in this tragic crash.
Fatal Head-On and Crossover Collisions in Utah
Crossover collisions remain among the most devastating types of crashes on Utah highways, especially on rural stretches like SR-6, which see a mix of local and heavy commercial traffic. When vehicles cross the centerline, the results are often catastrophic—particularly when they involve larger vehicles such as semitrucks.
In this case, the eastbound SUV sideswiped a westbound semi before leaving the roadway, breaking through a barrier, and overturning. The fact that the driver was ejected and pinned underneath the vehicle highlights just how violent the impact was. Seatbelt usage and vehicle structure can often mean the difference between survival and fatal injury in such crashes.
SR-6 is a notoriously dangerous highway in Utah due to its curving rural layout, variable weather conditions, and high-speed limits. Rain and wet pavement can reduce visibility and stopping distances even when a vehicle is under full control. The DPS noted that the weather was rainy at the time, but no hydroplaning or loss of control was observed prior to the crash.
For families who lose loved ones in sudden and traumatic roadway incidents, the aftermath is emotionally and logistically overwhelming. From working with law enforcement to managing final arrangements and potential insurance or legal concerns, the support needed can be extensive.
