St. Charles County, MO (August 22, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 64 resulted in injuries to one driver Friday morning near Route K. The incident, which occurred at approximately 8:08 a.m., caused significant delays during the morning commute and was investigated by Trooper E. R. Pritchard of Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop C.
According to the crash report, both involved vehicles—a 2010 Volkswagen driven by a 34-year-old woman from O’Fallon and a 2024 Kenworth truck driven by a 51-year-old man from Hazelwood—were traveling eastbound when they attempted to merge simultaneously into Lane 2. During the maneuver, the Volkswagen veered off the left side of the roadway and struck a concrete barrier. The vehicle then came to rest on the left shoulder of the interstate.
The Volkswagen sustained moderate damage and was towed by Crash City Towing. The Kenworth truck sustained minor damage and was able to be driven from the scene.
The female driver of the Volkswagen was wearing a seatbelt but sustained minor injuries. She was transported by the St. Charles County Ambulance District to Progress West Hospital for evaluation and treatment. The truck driver was not injured.
CPL A. M. Collins assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation, and no citations have been announced.
We wish the injured driver a full and swift recovery.
Interstate Lane-Change Crashes in Missouri
Friday’s collision on I-64 near Route K serves as a critical reminder of the risks associated with lane changes on Missouri’s high-speed highways. Lane-change accidents are particularly common during morning commute hours, when traffic volume is high and drivers may be shifting lanes quickly in response to congestion, exits, or merging vehicles.
In this case, both the passenger vehicle and commercial truck attempted to move into the same lane simultaneously, triggering a chain reaction that sent one vehicle into a concrete barrier. Fortunately, the injuries were minor, but the circumstances illustrate how even low-speed sideswipes or improper merges can result in serious consequences.
Highways like I-64 through St. Charles County are among the busiest in the region, serving as a major corridor between O’Fallon, Chesterfield, and St. Louis. With large commercial vehicles sharing the road with commuters, space management and mirror awareness become critical. Inadequate signaling, blind spots, or misjudged distances can quickly lead to collisions, especially when multiple drivers are maneuvering at once.
Lane-change crashes often result in vehicle damage, physical injury, and lasting stress for those involved. While most of these incidents are avoidable, they remain among the top contributors to interstate accidents in Missouri.
