St. Charles County, MO (June 18, 2025) – A rear-end collision on eastbound Route P left one woman injured Tuesday evening when her vehicle was struck from behind while preparing to make a left turn. The crash occurred just east of Grothe Rd at approximately 5:30 p.m. on June 17.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident took place as a 51-year-old woman from Wentzville was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Captiva eastbound on Route P. The woman slowed her vehicle in preparation for a left-hand turn when a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 20-year-old man from Foristell, failed to stop in time and struck the rear of the Captiva.
Both vehicles sustained moderate damage in the crash. The Captiva was left secured roadside, while the Silverado was driven away from the scene. Emergency medical services from the St. Charles County Ambulance District responded and transported the injured driver of the Captiva to SSM Saint Joseph Hospital in Lake Saint Louis for treatment of injuries. The driver of the Silverado was not reported injured.
Trooper D. McKenzie, with assistance from Trooper B. Katzing, conducted the investigation. No citations have been announced as of this report.
We send our best wishes to the injured woman and hope for her full and speedy recovery.
Rear-End Collisions on Two-Lane Roads in Missouri
Tuesday’s crash east of Grothe Rd highlights the dangers of rear-end collisions on rural two-lane highways such as Route P. These types of roads often lack dedicated turn lanes or adequate shoulder space, making it difficult for following drivers to react in time when a vehicle ahead slows or stops to make a turn.
Rear-end crashes are among the most common types of collisions in Missouri, accounting for a significant portion of injury accidents on secondary roadways. In 2024, St. Charles County reported numerous rear-end collisions involving vehicles turning off high-speed rural connectors like Route P—especially during peak travel times.
Even when injuries are categorized as minor, victims often deal with whiplash, back pain, or concussion symptoms that can require ongoing care. Recovery may also involve navigating insurance claims, arranging transportation, and determining fault—especially when the striking driver claims limited visibility or was distracted.
