St. Charles, MO (January 10, 2025) – A multi-vehicle collision occurred on eastbound I-70 near Fifth Street at approximately 5:17 PM on Thursday. The accident involved three vehicles and resulted in injuries to one individual, prompting a response from the Pattonville Fire Protection District and other emergency services.
The crash involved a 2008 Lexus IS, driven by a 21-year-old male from Lake Saint Louis, MO, a 2018 Nissan Sentra, driven by a 71-year-old male from St. Charles, MO, and a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by a 37-year-old male, also from Lake Saint Louis, MO. According to reports, the driver of the Lexus was merging onto eastbound I-70 from Fifth Street when snow piled near the merge point and obstructed visibility. As the Lexus entered lane 4, it collided with the front right of the Nissan Sentra. The Lexus then skidded across the roadway, striking the Pontiac Grand Prix.
The 21-year-old driver of the Lexus sustained moderate injuries and was transported by the Pattonville Fire Protection District to SSM Health DePaul Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Nissan Sentra and the Pontiac Grand Prix reported no significant injuries. The Lexus was totaled and towed from the scene by Crash City Towing, while the Sentra sustained moderate damage and was removed by A1 Towing. The Pontiac was moderately damaged but was driven from the scene.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash, citing reduced visibility caused by snow accumulation as a contributing factor. Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we hope for his swift recovery.
Winter Driving Hazards in Missouri
Winter weather conditions often create dangerous situations for Missouri motorists, with snow and ice being significant contributors to accidents. Piles of snow, as seen in the crash on I-70, can obstruct drivers’ views, particularly in areas where merging traffic is common. These conditions demand heightened awareness and caution from all road users.
To mitigate risks during winter, drivers are encouraged to:
- Ensure windows and mirrors are clear of snow and ice before driving.
- Maintain a safe following distance to account for reduced traction.
- Approach merge points and intersections with extra caution.
- Stay informed about road conditions through local traffic updates.
Accidents involving reduced visibility or roadway obstructions often lead to severe consequences. Victims may face medical expenses, lost wages, and long-term recovery challenges. Seeking legal and medical guidance after a crash is essential for understanding your rights and securing compensation.
