St. Charles, MO (September 2, 2025) – A deadly crash on eastbound MO-364 near Jungermann Rd claimed the life of a pedestrian and left a driver injured Saturday night. The collision occurred just before 8:45 p.m., prompting a major response from local and state authorities.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 42-year-old man from St. Charles was crossing all eastbound lanes of MO-364 when he was struck by a 2023 Kia K5 traveling in the eastbound direction. The vehicle was driven by a 23-year-old woman from St. Ann, MO. She was unable to avoid the pedestrian, and the front of her car struck the man in the roadway.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:53 p.m. by fire personnel. His body was later transported by the St. Charles County Medical Examiner’s Office to the St. Louis County Morgue. Authorities confirmed that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She sustained moderate injuries and was transported by the St. Charles County Ambulance District to Progress West Hospital for treatment.
The crash resulted in the total loss of the Kia K5, which was towed from the scene by Superior Towing. MO-364 remained partially closed for an extended period as investigators from the Highway Patrol’s Crash Team and local law enforcement reconstructed the scene and collected evidence.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the pedestrian whose life was tragically lost. We also wish the injured driver a safe and full recovery.
Pedestrian Fatalities on Missouri Highways
The tragic accident on MO-364 highlights the deadly risks pedestrians face when crossing major highways—especially at night or in non-designated areas. High-speed roadways like Route 364 are not designed for pedestrian access, and visibility during nighttime hours makes it incredibly difficult for drivers to react in time to avoid someone in the roadway.
In this case, despite the driver’s efforts, there was not enough time or distance to prevent the fatal impact. Pedestrian fatalities on Missouri highways are unfortunately increasing, with factors such as limited lighting, high vehicle speeds, and pedestrian misjudgment contributing to devastating outcomes.
Drivers are urged to stay alert at all times, but highway settings offer very little reaction time when a pedestrian enters the travel lanes. For pedestrians, crossing major thoroughfares without designated crosswalks or signals greatly increases the risk of fatal outcomes.
For the families of victims, the aftermath of these tragedies can be emotionally and financially overwhelming. In cases involving wrongful death, Missouri law allows surviving family members to pursue compensation for funeral costs, emotional suffering, and related damages. Similarly, injured drivers may also face ongoing physical and psychological challenges after being involved in a fatal crash—even when they are not at fault.
