St. Francois County, MO (August 15, 2025) – A pedestrian suffered serious injuries on Friday morning, August 15, after being struck by a vehicle on US-67 near the intersection with Commonwealth in St. Francois County. The incident occurred at approximately 8:22 a.m. and required an emergency airlift due to the severity of the injuries.
Preliminary reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicate that a 53-year-old man from Farmington entered the roadway and was struck by a southbound 1995 GMC Sonoma. The vehicle, driven by a 61-year-old woman from Leadwood, was traveling in the right lane when the collision occurred. Despite the driver’s efforts, the front of the vehicle struck the pedestrian, causing critical injuries.
The GMC sustained total damage and was towed from the scene by Buckley’s Towing. The pedestrian, who was not in a marked crosswalk and is listed as “exempt” from standard safety device usage, was transported by ARCH Air Medical Services to Mercy Hospital in Saint Louis for emergency care.
Trooper A.D. Pogue of Troop C led the investigation, with assistance from Commercial Vehicle Officer R.E. Fain. Authorities are still reviewing the circumstances of the crash, including whether visibility, road design, or other contributing factors played a role.
Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian and their family, and we hope for a full and swift recovery.
Pedestrian Accidents in Missouri
Incidents involving pedestrians, like the one on US-67 in St. Francois County, often result in severe or life-threatening injuries, especially when the collision occurs on high-speed roadways. In this case, the individual entered the travel lane and was struck by an oncoming vehicle with little time to react, a scenario that plays out far too frequently across the state.
Data from the Missouri Department of Transportation highlights that pedestrian fatalities and serious injuries continue to rise, especially in areas lacking designated crosswalks or pedestrian infrastructure. Roadways like US-67, designed primarily for motor vehicle traffic, can be particularly hazardous for pedestrians due to fast-moving vehicles, limited shoulders, and the absence of sidewalks or signals.
The emergency airlift by ARCH Air suggests the urgency and severity of the injuries involved in this case. Quick and skilled medical response can mean the difference between life and death in such crashes, especially when head trauma, internal injuries, or multiple fractures are suspected.
Pedestrians are strongly encouraged to use marked crossings and remain vigilant when navigating major highways. For drivers, heightened awareness is essential, especially during morning hours when pedestrians may be walking to work, transit stops, or roadside destinations.
Legal and recovery concerns can become complicated in pedestrian-vehicle collisions. Victims and their families often face mounting medical bills, extended rehabilitation, and questions about liability or insurance coverage. Professional support can be crucial during the aftermath.
