St. Joseph, MO (August 13, 2025) – Emergency responders were called to a traffic collision at the intersection of South Belt Highway and Powers Drive in St. Joseph on Tuesday morning. The crash occurred at 9:12 a.m. and involved a 2010 Chevrolet HHR and a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The incident resulted in moderate injuries for one individual.
According to law enforcement, the Chevrolet HHR was traveling southbound in the northbound passing lane of South Belt Highway when the Hyundai Sonata, which was traveling northbound in the passing lane, changed lanes to avoid a collision. However, the Chevrolet began to skid and changed lanes, striking the Hyundai Sonata in the front fender. After the collision, the Chevrolet came to a stop on the northbound shoulder, facing southeast, while the Hyundai came to a rest on Powers Drive, facing northeast.
The driver of the Hyundai Sonata, a 78-year-old female from St. Joseph, suffered moderate injuries and was transported by Buchanan County Ambulance to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. The driver of the Chevrolet HHR, a 35-year-old male from St. Joseph, was not injured. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Blue Knight Towing of St. Joseph.
Law enforcement officials from St. Joseph Police Department, along with Lt. M.P. Quilty and CPL. J.D. Farmer, assisted at the scene. The crash is still under investigation to determine the exact cause.
