St. Louis Co, MO (August 17, 2025) – A chain-reaction crash involving four vehicles occurred Friday evening on eastbound Interstate 70, just west of Jennings Station Rd in St. Louis County. The collision, which unfolded around 6:27 p.m., left one driver injured and caused extensive damage to multiple vehicles.
Emergency responders, including Northeast Fire and Protection crews, were dispatched to the scene. Medics and fire crews worked to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision. A 56-year-old male driver of a 2023 GMC Terrain sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Barnes Jewish Hospital for further treatment.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident began when an unknown vehicle (Vehicle 1) made an abrupt lane change into lane 3, causing a 2016 Mercedes AMG (Vehicle 2) to swerve. Vehicle 2’s rear side was struck, initiating a series of impacts. The Mercedes slid into lane 2 and struck the rear of a 2015 Honda Fit (Vehicle 3), which then careened into lane 1 and collided with the GMC Terrain (Vehicle 4). The first vehicle left the scene before authorities could identify the driver or vehicle details.
The Mercedes and Honda sustained extensive damage and were towed by Bolin Towing, along with the Terrain, which had minor damage. The investigation into the hit-and-run is ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we hope for a full and speedy recovery.
Chain-Reaction Crashes and Hit-and-Run Risks in Urban Areas
Multi-vehicle crashes like the one on I-70 near Jennings Station Rd are not uncommon in high-traffic corridors, particularly when sudden lane changes or aggressive driving behaviors are involved. When a driver causes a crash and flees the scene, it adds layers of difficulty to both the investigation and the recovery process for victims.
Urban interstates such as I-70 often feature dense traffic, quick merging, and limited time to react—conditions that can escalate a single mistake into a multi-vehicle pileup. Drivers are reminded to use caution, avoid abrupt maneuvers, and always remain at the scene of an accident as required by law.
