St. Louis County, MO (July 16, 2025) – A four-vehicle crash along eastbound I-70 just west of MO-141 resulted in one person being hospitalized and extensive vehicle damage Tuesday evening. The incident occurred around 6:02 p.m., during peak commuter hours, and led to significant traffic delays in the area.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened when traffic had slowed on the interstate. A 2019 Ford F-450, driven by a 53-year-old man from East Prairie, MO, failed to reduce speed in time and collided with three other vehicles ahead of it. The Ford first struck the rear of a 2025 Toyota Corolla, then continued forward, hitting both a 2024 Nissan Altima and a 2015 GMC Acadia.
The driver of the Nissan Altima—a 58-year-old man from McKinney, TX—suffered minor injuries and was transported by the Pattonville Fire Protection District to SSM Health DePaul Hospital for treatment. The other drivers, including a 21-year-old male in the Corolla and a 58-year-old female in the Acadia, were not reported injured.
All vehicles involved sustained moderate to total damage and were towed from the scene by multiple recovery services, including A1 Towing and Superior Towing. Authorities confirmed that all vehicles were traveling eastbound when the incident occurred.
Assisting officers included CPL A. Collins and TPR E. Pritchard. The investigation remains active.
We wish the injured driver a full and swift recovery.
Chain-Reaction Crashes in Missouri
Accidents involving multiple vehicles, such as Tuesday’s crash on I-70, are often caused by one vehicle’s failure to reduce speed in congested conditions. These chain-reaction collisions are common on Missouri’s busy interstates, especially during rush hour when sudden stops are frequent and high traffic volumes reduce reaction time.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, rear-end collisions continue to be one of the most frequent crash types statewide. Large vehicles like the Ford F-450 involved in this case require longer stopping distances, and when drivers misjudge speed or following distance, the results can be severe—especially in slow-moving traffic.
Victims of multi-car crashes face a unique set of challenges, including navigating insurance with multiple parties involved, seeking medical care, and determining liability. Recovery can become especially complicated when commercial or out-of-state drivers are part of the incident.
If you or a loved one has been affected by a multi-vehicle crash, timely access to medical and legal support can be critical in managing the aftermath.
