St. Louis, MO (September 23, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash with injuries was reported Monday afternoon on I-70 eastbound near Jennings Station Rd. The Missouri State Highway Patrol stated that the accident occurred at approximately 12:22 p.m. and involved three vehicles, one of which fled the scene.
According to investigators, an unknown vehicle traveling in the center lanes made an abrupt maneuver that caused a chain reaction. A 2013 Chrysler 300 attempted to avoid the first vehicle but was struck, leading to a collision with a 2017 GMC Sierra. The unidentified vehicle left the scene before authorities arrived. Both the Chrysler and GMC sustained damage and were towed from the interstate.
The driver of the GMC, an 81-year-old man from St. Louis, suffered injuries and was transported by the Northeast Fire Protection District to Barnes-Jewish Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Chrysler, a 20-year-old man from St. Louis, was not reported injured.
Traffic in the eastbound lanes was slowed as emergency crews cleared the wreckage and investigators documented the crash.
We send our thoughts to the injured driver and wish him a swift recovery.
Hit-and-Run Collisions in Missouri
Monday’s accident on I-70 highlights the dangers of hit-and-run crashes, which leave victims vulnerable and complicate the efforts of emergency responders. In this case, the actions of an unidentified vehicle directly triggered a chain reaction, causing damage to two cars and injuries to one driver. Unfortunately, the responsible driver fled, a situation that remains far too common on Missouri roadways.
Hit-and-run crashes in urban areas like St. Louis often occur during heavy traffic when sudden lane changes or reckless maneuvers increase the likelihood of collisions. Victims are left not only with physical injuries but also with the financial and emotional strain of dealing with a crash where accountability is harder to establish.
Authorities remind drivers that fleeing the scene of a crash is a serious crime. Staying at the scene, reporting the incident, and cooperating with law enforcement are essential responsibilities for all motorists. For other drivers, remaining alert, allowing safe space between vehicles, and practicing defensive driving are key ways to reduce the risk of involvement in these dangerous events.
