St. Louis, MO (August 22, 2025) – A motorcyclist sustained moderate injuries Thursday afternoon in a three-vehicle collision on South Outer Road 270, just east of Knollway Dr in St. Louis County. The incident occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m. and was investigated by CPL. J. Brown of Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop C, with assistance from MSGT C. Pleasant and the Ferguson Police Department.
According to the crash report, a 2024 Dodge Durango was making a right-hand turn onto South Outer Rd 270 when it entered the path of an eastbound 2011 Mitsubishi Galant. The Durango’s left side struck the rear-right of the Galant. A 2021 Yamaha MTN890 motorcycle, also traveling eastbound, was unable to avoid the collision and struck both the Mitsubishi and the Dodge.
The motorcyclist, a 28-year-old man from Edwardsville, IL, was ejected from his vehicle upon impact. He suffered moderate injuries and was transported by Christian EMS to Barnes Jewish Hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Following the collision, both the motorcycle and the Durango veered off the left side of the roadway and struck a guardrail. The motorcycle sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Bolins Towing. The Durango was also towed due to moderate damage. The Mitsubishi Galant sustained minor damage and was driven away from the scene.
No additional injuries were reported, and the investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any citations have been issued.

Motorcycle Collisions and Intersection Risks in Missouri
Thursday’s crash on South Outer Rd 270 near Knollway Dr illustrates the heightened vulnerability of motorcyclists in multi-vehicle accidents—particularly when turning movements or sudden lane entries are involved. In this case, the motorcycle rider had little time or space to react after a passenger vehicle turned into the path of oncoming traffic, setting off a chain-reaction crash.
Motorcyclists in Missouri face unique challenges on suburban and urban roadways. While helmets and protective gear can reduce injury severity, they can’t eliminate the risks posed by larger vehicles making unexpected movements. Riders are especially susceptible to rear-end and side-impact collisions when drivers fail to yield or misjudge distances.
The crash location—an outer road parallel to a major highway—adds complexity, as traffic merges from various driveways, side streets, and ramps. These conditions increase the likelihood of abrupt turns and limited reaction time for all drivers, especially motorcyclists, who have a narrower margin for error.
This incident also highlights the importance of awareness and proper signaling when entering or crossing busy roadways. All drivers are responsible for ensuring their path is clear and safe before turning or merging. Failing to do so can have devastating consequences, particularly when motorcycles are involved.
Recovery for injured motorcyclists often includes long-term physical therapy, time away from work, and substantial medical costs. Securing legal support and medical care early can be critical to ensuring the victim’s rights are protected and their recovery is supported.
