St. Louis, MO (September 16, 2025) – A serious motorcycle crash was reported Monday morning on I-70 east of I-270 in St. Louis County, leaving a young rider with severe injuries. The incident occurred around 9:04 a.m. when a 2025 Yamaha MT07 swerved to the right to avoid another vehicle and collided with a 2024 Ford F-350 traveling in the same direction. The motorcycle overturned onto its left side following the impact.
The rider, a 19-year-old man from St. Peters, sustained serious injuries and was transported by Pattonville Fire and EMS to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for emergency treatment. He had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The Ford driver, a 56-year-old man from St. Clair, was not injured and was able to drive his vehicle from the scene. The motorcycle, however, sustained total damage and had to be towed.
Authorities with Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop C, assisted by multiple officers, conducted an on-site investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
Our thoughts are with the injured rider as he continues to receive care and we wish him a full and speedy recovery.
Motorcycle Accidents in Missouri
The crash on I-70 serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers motorcyclists face when sharing the road with larger vehicles. Even when wearing proper safety gear, riders remain highly vulnerable to severe injuries in collisions, especially on high-speed interstates. In this case, a maneuver to avoid one vehicle tragically placed the motorcyclist in the path of a heavy truck, resulting in a violent crash.
St. Louis County has long been one of the state’s most heavily trafficked areas, with I-70 serving as a major east-west corridor. Congestion, sudden lane changes, and limited visibility all contribute to motorcycle accidents in this region. Missouri crash data consistently shows that younger riders, such as the 19-year-old injured in this incident, are disproportionately affected in serious collisions.
Drivers of passenger and commercial vehicles are urged to remain vigilant for motorcycles, check blind spots, and allow extra space on the roadway. Motorcyclists can reduce their risks by maintaining safe following distances, avoiding sudden maneuvers when possible, and continuing to wear protective gear.
